Pregnancy & Your Skin Instant – A New Chapter in Self-Care

Skin Conditions, Acne and seborrhoea, Rosacea and sensitivity

At The Beauty Embassy, skincare isn’t just a routine; it’s a ritual. A moment to reconnect, replenish, and honour where you are right now. And for our beautiful clients navigating pregnancy (including our founder, Meghan!), that sense of care becomes more important than ever.

During this time of transformation, your skin, like your body, changes rapidly and often without warning. Hormonal shifts can lead to fluctuations in sensitivity, breakouts, pigmentation changes and overall skin behaviour. What worked for you a few months ago may suddenly feel ineffective, or even uncomfortable.

Your Skin Instant, the current state of your skin in real time, is always evolving. But during pregnancy, that evolution becomes, more nuanced. This is why your skincare routine must also evolve with it.

Pregnancy is a season where self-care is not indulgent, but essential. And nourishing your skin along the way is one of the most beautiful things you can do for both yourself and your baby.

How Pregnancy Affects the Skin

As your body adapts to support new life, your skin reflects those internal changes. Many pregnant clients experience pigmentation (particularly melasma), which appears as darkened patches. Others notice heightened sensitivity, with skin reacting more easily to products or temperature changes.

Breakouts, particularly along the jawline or chin, can be common, even for those who’ve never had acne before. At the same time, the skin may feel dry, flaky, or tight, with some experiencing redness or itching due to increased blood flow or skin stretching. Every person’s journey is unique, but these changes are a normal part of the pregnancy experience.

What to Pause During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is also a time to pause certain treatments or ingredients, especially those that are too active, aggressive, or may pose unnecessary risk during this sensitive phase.

Injectables such as Botox and filler are paused during pregnancy. So too are higher-strength clinical treatments, including intense peels and resurfacing procedures. We also recommend temporarily setting aside any harsh actives, overly stimulating exfoliants as they may not sit well with sensitised skin.

Ingredients to Avoid

In addition to treatments, there are several skincare ingredients best avoided during pregnancy. These include commonly used actives that can be absorbed systemically, as well as sensitising or hormone-disrupting ingredients.

At The Beauty Embassy, we take ingredient safety seriously, and our team is always on hand to guide you in selecting safe, effective alternatives. Ingredients to avoid during pregnancy include:

  • Retinol and Vitamin A derivatives
  • Benzoyl Peroxide
  • Parabens
  • Essential Oils (depending on type and concentration)

If you’re unsure, we always recommend coming in for a Skin Instant Lab Diagnosis, where we can assess your skin’s current needs and guide you safely and expertly.

Pregnancy-Safe Favourites from Biologique Recherche

Because every pregnancy is different, and so is every Skin Instant, we begin every journey with a Skin Instant Lab to ensure your skin is receiving what it truly needs. However, there are a few Biologique Recherche favourites we love recommending to our expecting clients.

One of the most special is Crème Masque Vernix VG, inspired by the natural vernix, which as most mothers will know, is the protective, creamy coating that naturally covers a newborn’s skin at birth. This deeply nourishing cream-mask offers repair, protection, and intense hydration, mirroring the same barrier-strengthening benefits for fragile skin.

Serum Iso-Placenta is a beautiful option during and post-pregnancy, helping to regenerate and repair skin affected by hormonal changes, fatigue, or breakouts. It supports healing post blemish marks while restoring clarity and balance. For those with some pregnancy breakouts Creme Dermopurifiante is the perfect partner to Serum iso-Placenta during pregnancy to help purify and balance without taking any risks.

To keep pregnancy pigmentation at bay Serum PIGM 400 and Masque PIGM 400 can be incorporated as  prevention and correction of hormonal melasma.

When it comes to the body, Crème R-Stria and Crème B-Stria offer targeted support for stretch marks. Crème R-Stria (R = Red/Rouge) focuses on prevention and firming during pregnancy, while Crème B-Stria (B = Blanc/white) helps improve the texture and tone of existing marks both helping you care for your skin as it expands and shifts.

Tailored Treatments for Pregnancy at The Beauty Embassy

All treatments at The Beauty Embassy are completely bespoke, and this extends to our pregnancy clients. We understand that your skin may be more reactive or unpredictable during this time, which is why we adjust each facial based on your current Skin Instant, taking care to avoid certain ingredients while still delivering visible, restorative results.

From our calming, nutrient-rich Bespoke Facials to pregnancy-safe scalp treatment enhancements, we’re here to help you relax, restore, and reconnect with yourself through every stage of your journey.

We highly recommend beginning with a Skin Instant Lab Diagnosis so we can prescribe the perfect products and rituals to support your skin during this special time.

Nourish Your Glow

They say pregnancy gives you a glow, but at The Beauty Embassy, we know that glow doesn’t just happen. It’s created with intention, care, and nourishment.

By taking the time to support your skin during this transformative season, you’re not only caring for your complexion but honouring yourself.
